Stone Feasting Time is a playful tale of preparing a traditional lobster feast in a non-traditional way, cooked in a shiny new trash can! Clever Tim ( think Yankee ingenuity) prepares the can in his backyard by placing stones, the first layer of the feast, in the bottom. As each guest adds their home-grown specialty to the can they are excitedly skeptical of the promised result: “Feast from a stone? Imagine that!”
Stone Feasting Time captures the joy of community, highlights local foods, informs about food sources, gives focus to families, and celebrates traditional Maine culture through food. Its hint of sly trickery with the promise of a feast from a stone is reminiscent of Stone Soup and its layering from page to page evokes The House That Jack Built. This is a book for children (read aloud ages 3-8, independent readers ages 7 and up), parents, teachers, visitors to Maine, and natives that know this feast well.
Bonus: Recipes for cooking your own backyard-trashcan-stone-feast and baking a blueberry cake for desert are included!
