These activities are aligned with the Common Core Standards for  English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and math.

ABC GAMES
Print a copy of the free downloadable alphabet page for each child. Laminate each copy or place each copy in a page protector sheet so that children can use dry erase markers for these activities:

• Trace over each letter in the same color as it is printed ( if you can not print in color then children can use any rainbow colors they like).
• Have the children circle the letters in their name.

Games to play with these same sheets/matts:

• Point to each letter as you sing the ABC song.
• Play ABC Match It! Simply cut one sheet of letters (laminated 1st will last longer) have the child match the cut up letters to the mat OR use purchased letters to match on the matt.
• Give every child a game board (matt). Put purchased letters in a grab bag. In turn each child draws a letter from the bag and names the letter so that all players can locate that letter on their matt. Next the group chants the name of the letter and it’s letter sound; for example X chant   “X - X- ks -ks - ks”  for B chant  “B - B - buh - buh - buh”

1.      choose a letter
2.     draw a box on the board
3.     use the chart to begin your letter in the starting position
4.     allow child to guess the letter with just the 1st stroke
5.     add to the letter as needed untill the letter is guessed correctly
6.     each child can use the ABC matt for reference
